Some say it was pure luck, others say it was a gift that BMW RLR team received, but the outcome is what matters these days and the M3 GTs took the title home. In our opinion, well deserved, while winning a single race this season, Road America, BMW has shown consistency, sustainability and more important, constant progress from race to race.
Petit Le Mans was also the only race in the 2010 ALMS when BMW cars have not made the podium. In the motorsport world, consistency is what wins championships, and team work is the foundation of success, and indeed, BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team acted as a team this year, from the marketing strategy to promote the championship, to the engineers that built the cars and improved them after each race, to the talented drivers and pitstop mechanics, and last but not least, to experience brought by Bobby Rahal and the enthusiasm and German competitive spirit brought by Martin Birkmann.
Hats down to everyone that contributed and congratulations are now more appropriate than ever. Not only BMW brings a great win back home to Munich, they also won the respect of many in the motorsport industry and set the foundation for the future. GT racing can be and will be exciting, and the final lap at Petit Le Mans comes to validate this statement.
