PSA Peugeot Citroen is considering its cooperation with BMW

Post by bimmermania »

BMW and French carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen are considering extending their cooperation beyond the existing partnership in developing engines.

The French automaker plans to join BMW in developing carbon fiber. “We look for technical solutions at a premium manufacturer and a generalist can use either one,” said PSA CEO Philippe Varin the “Handelsblatt” for Finanz Nachrichten.

Industry sources said, BMW and SGL Group Carbon may supply light carbon fiber elements to PSA. In July, SGL Group and BMW announced their joint venture, and a state-of-the-art carbon fiber manufacturing plant in Moses Lake, WA.

The new facility is an important element of both companies’ strategy to commercialize viable manufacturing of ultra light weight carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) for use in future vehicle concepts. The fibers manufactured at Moses Lake will be used for BMW’s upcoming Megacity Vehicle.

At the same time, BMW plans to distribute some carbon fiber parts to other automakers interested in developing lightweight vehicles.Image
