2011 BMW 6 Series spotted at Nurburgring

Post by bimmermania »

Spy photos fest week here at BMWBLOG and today, we return once again with new spy shots of the upcoming BMW 6 Series. The test mule spotted is the Convertible variant sporting a soft roof top which according to our surfaces, will be the only option offered in the 6er Cabrio.

According to previous reports and a statement by BMW North American CEO, Jim O’Donnell, the next next 6-series coupe and convertible will be radically different from the current cars’ styling. He agreed that the current 6-Series is very polarizing due to the “Bangle butt” it carries, but the redesigned 6er, will be a “super sleek” vehicle.

Our latest insider reports mention that the new 6 Series has already began its tour within BMW where several key BMW executives from around the world are granted a preview of the upcoming 6er.

The car is rumored to be very emotional, following the steps of the new Z4, the core model of the Joy campaign. The 2011 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation. It will have shorter overhangs and a lower roofline which implicitly gives the car a more muscular look. While not confirmed, it is being said that some elements from the canceled CS Concept made their way into the final design. We also expect a taller and wider than usual front-grille, a trend seen in the latest BMW models.

The interior design has also been re-drawn from ground up and it is being said to reflect some of the design cues seen in the Z4 Roadster, so expect a very driver oriented dashboard, sporty approach with high quality trim and materials. Lots of aluminum and carbon fiber are expected to enhance the sporty feel.

Engine wise, the new 6 Series will feature a combination of diesel and petrol offerings. The high-end diesel model will be the 640d, powered by the N57 turbocharged straight-6 common rail diesel engine outputting 306 horsepower.

The 650i will be the highest offering powered by the 4.4 liter V8 Twin-turbo engine found in the other 50i models.
