Retrofitting '85 318 with OBC....need help...

Post by CrispyE30 »

I have the OBC from a newer 318, and the wiring harness for said OBC. Does programa make the little black control box behind the driver kick panel? If so, how do I know which p/n? will OBC even work with LJet brain?

Is it true that OBC didn't come out until 86 and even then, only in the 325? This worries me since mid 85 was when the conversion to Motronix took place, and obviously my LJet was late 84.

Anyone....Anyone.....Bueller?

To answer one of your questions, as far as I know the OBC didn't come out until 1986 in the 3-series. I had a 1986 325e, e for electronic or something like that with an OBC in it. However, I know for a fact that 6-series had obc's in '84.

So, you're wanting to retrofit a 1985 318 with a newer model 318 obc? Just throwing this off the top of my head, but I'd think this would be possible with obviously a bit of work. I'm guessing you'd need to update the DME to roughly the same year as the OBC so they can interact. I'm not sure what else it would take.
