Video: New BMW M5 vs BMW S1000RR superbike

Post by bimmermania »

UK magazine AutoExpress takes the new BMW M5 and places it against the BMW S1000RR, the superbike that any motorcycle fan craves.

The M5 is powered by a high-revving 4.4-liter (4395cc) turbocharged that uses the BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, twin-scroll turbochargers, high-precision direct fuel injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve control and a cross-bank exhaust manifold that guarantees legendary BMW M-car thrust with seamless lag-free power delivery from just off idle.

The engine outputs 560 horsepower from 5,750-7,000 rpm and 680Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque from only 1500rpm. Our sources say the high-rev unit takes the M5 to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds and under 4 seconds using BMW’s new Launch Control.

BMW S1000RR was introduced in April 2008 and is powered by a 999 cc (61.0 cu in) inline-4 engine redlined at 14,200 rpm. It has an overall wet weight of 207.7 kg (458 lb), and produces 133.6 kW (179.2 hp) @ 13250 rpm at the rear wheel.

The top speed is 305 km/h while running the quarter mile in 9,57 sec @ 251 km/h and 0–100 km/h in 3.1 sec.

So M5 vs the superbike…let’s have a look.
