In a dealer presentation in Netherlands, BMW revealed the power figures of the rumored M550d model. The tri-turbo six-cylinder diesel will output 381 horsepower and over 700 Nm of torque (516 lb-ft). The top is as always limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).
Acceleration figures are not yet known, but with the impressive torque and four-wheel drive system, a quick sprint is expected.
The engine will debut in the BMW M550d, and will make its way into the X5 and X6 model as well. Production of the new 5 Series super-diesel model starts in March 2012 and it remains unknown if BMW will homologate the powerplant for the US market.
The diesel powerplant can be positioned in a way as an alternative to the top 550i model and its 407 horsepower. The M Sport package featured in models possibly sports slightly different design cues to further distinguish the M550d from the “regular” 5er M Sport.
