A report published by Insideline talks about MINI’s future plans to expand production into more factories outside the Oxford, UK, plant. In a recent talk to Ian Robertson, InsideLine learned that the UK facility rungs up against capacity limitations.
The Oxford plant cannot produce more than 250,000 cars annually, even though the upcoming MINI Crossover will be produced by the Magna Steyr auto manufacturer at their Graz facility. Robertson did not mention which plants are being considered, but InsideLine mentiones BMW’s Spartanburg plant to be a possibility.
Since U.S. is MINI’s largest market, Spartanburg would be the ideal option, but these are just speculations at this point. The South Carolina facility continues its expansion plans and is preparing for the new BMW X3 production.
