Spy Photos: 2011 BMW X3 continues its testing runs

Post by bimmermania »

We are slowly approaching the launch of the second generation BMW X3 and BMW is intensifying their testing sessions around the world. In the past month, several 2011 X3 prototypes have been spotted on U.S. soil, near the Spartanburg plant, but also in Munich.

With the risk of repeating ourselves, let’s recap some of the things we have learned about the newly, redesigned mid-compact SAV.

The 2011 BMW X3 is built under the codename F25 and it runs on the future 3 Series platform. As we mentioned several times in the past and confirmed by sources close to the brand, the F25 is moving up in size with dimensions closer to the first generation BMW X5.

The “blend” look of the current model is being replaced with a similar design approach as seen on the X1 and with some design cues inherited from other BMW models, especially around the front-grille and headlights.

The sloping roof indicates that underneath the more dynamic appearance lies a new sporting character than seen in the first generation X3.

The interior design has drastically improved over the current E83 X3, with higher quality materials and build quality on the same level with the new 5 Series Sedan.

The top model will be the xDrive35i, powered by the 3.0 liter turbocharged engine. Customers in Europe will be given the X3xDrive40d.

The North American market will initially offer the xDrive28i model and the aforementioned 3.0 liter Twin-Turbo.

The unveiling of the new X3 will take place at the Paris Motor Show later this year.
