Ahead of its scheduled release, the 2011 BMW 5 Series Touring breaks cover. The leaked photos showed up this morning on the German magazine Bild.de and reveal one of the best looking Touring/Wagons ever built by BMW.

The new BMW 5er Touring will be revealed to the public for the first time when the Auto Mobil International (AMI) Show opens on the Leipzig Fairgrounds 10 – 18 April 2010.

As seen in these official photos, the new 5 Series Touring has grown in size and the rear-end sports a more coupeish-like roof. 5 Series Touring is considerably lower and sleeker than the 5 Gran Turismo model, but without sacrificing that sportiness much needed by the BMW buyers. Inside, the 5er Touring features a three-part rear seat which is folded by hand.

Engine wise, the F11 Touring will come in two flavors of six-cylinder petrol engines, 523i with 204 horsepower and the 535i, 306 hp. Four and six-cylinder diesel powerplants are offered as well, including the 520d with 184 hp and 525d with 245 hp. The diesel engine in the 520d offers one of the best fuel consumption numbers in a Touring model: 5.2 liters per 100 km or 45.2 MPG. As part of EfficientDynamics, the 520d includes the Start-Stop technology.

The top model with six-cylinder, 535i, sprints from 0 to 62 mph in just six seconds and consumes on average 8.6 liter/100km (27.35 MPG). Optional, the 2011 BMW 5 Series Touring can be ordered with the new ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.

The fourth generation F11 5er Touring starts in Europe from 42,600 euros and will become available at German dealerships on September 18th, 2010. Still no word on availability for the U.S. market, but we’ll keep our hopes.
