Spy Shots: 2011 BMW 5 Series Touring/Wagon

Post by bimmermania »

In the past weeks, the attention of the popular BMW community turned to the next generation 5 Series, the popular sport luxury sedan that will launch next year. Months after the sedan goes on sale, the Europeans will get to enjoy the 5 Series Touring, a model still popular on the Old Continent.

While the front-end of the new Touring is no mystery to us anymore, the rear-end still carries some light camouflage tape that hides those fine details which can break or make the deal. As it seems from the photo bellow, the Touring’s taillights are different from the ones found on the sedan, the light strips across are a bit more obvious that on the sedan.

The car spotted here is one of the turbocharged models, a detail gave away by the dual-exhaust pipes.

Design wise, the 2011 BMW 5 Series F11 is one the most balanced and elegant looking BMW Touring ever built and it remains a crucial vehicle in BMW’s lineup. The new Touring is unconfirmed for the U.S. market given the recent introduction of the luxurious 5 Series GT. The BMW 5 Series Touring sits considerably lower and it is sleeker than the 5 Gran Turismo model, still keeping that sportiness much needed by the BMW buyers.

Many people were concerned about the new Touring conflicting with the recently released BMW 5 Series GT, but BMW clearly explained that the two cars will have a different customer base and the Touring model is still expected to be a high-seller model in Europe.

The engine line-up will be similar to the sedan offerings, a wide range of petrol and diesel engines.
