Essen Motor Show hosts every year several premieres from the biggest auto tuners in the industry. The current edition makes no exception and many tuned up vehicles have been revealed, one of them, a BMW 1 Series Coupe converted into a police car by german tuner, AC Schnitzer.
Since 2005, the Association of German Car Tuners (VDAT) in cooperation with the German Police and the country’s Federal Ministry for Transport have created the “Tune It! Safe” program to encourage drivers to adopt safe and legal tuning practices. The car chosen this year, it’s a BMW 123d Coupe.
The 123d Coupe by AC Schnitzer receives several upgrades, including a sport suspension that lowers the ride height by 30mm, a sport exhaust system and allow wheels wrapped in Hankook performance tires.
The exterior needs to identify with a police car and the 123d gets original stickers and Hella flashing lights. AC Schnitzer also added an aero kit with two-piece front spoiler, rear skirt insert, wing and roof spoiler. A set of LEDs have also been integrated in the front bumper.
The interior has been upgraded with sporty elements, leather bucket seats, carbon fiber on the dashboard, center console, door handles and steering wheel, and the now usual aluminum pedals and footrest.
The engine gets an upgrade as well, the 2.0 liter twin-turbo diesel engine outputs now 241 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque (480Nm). The engine is matted to a six-speed automatic transmission and runs from o-62 mph in 6.7 seconds.
Pricing? Unknown, but certainly not on the cheap side.
