Renderings: 2013 BMW M3 Sedan

Post by bimmermania »

Rendering artist WildSpeed and f30post showcase how the next generation 2013 BMW M3 Sedan could look like. With the new 3 Series Sedan just days away from unveiling and with most of the design details already seen through previous spy photos or “leaked” aerial images, the attention will soon turn towards BMW’s most iconic product: the almighty M3.

Due out in 2013, first in a sedan form, the M3 will be followed by M4 Coupe, the new naming convention that BMW contemplates using for the high-end sporty model of the 4 Series family.

BMW will continue to offer the new M3 in three body variants: sedan, coupe and convertible. Just a few weeks ago, our sources spoke to us on the naming convention of the new M3 and M4 offerings. The M3 sedan will carry the internal code F80, while the M4 coupe takes on the F82 code.

In our opinion, the biggest change within the M3 family will come this time from the engine offering. Same sources stated that for the past year BMW has been testing different powerplants in M3 prototypes, from inline-six turbo engines, to a newly designed and unique V6, and even the current V8 naturally aspirated engine. But reports remain contradictory, and just as with any major company protecting their biggest secrets under locked doors and through controlled leaks (see iPhone101 course), BMW is certainly not ready, at the moment, to reveal their hand.

A latest spy video certainly points out the sound of a V6 unit, but this could be just one of the many test mules running around with different engine configurations. Now we did learn recently that the V6 is a 3.3 liter BiTurbo engine with around 450 horsepower, but this is all we can vouch for at the moment.

On the design side, the rendering artist portrays a masculine design of the M3, with powerful cues, aggressive stance and road presence. Aerodynamic elements, along with convex and concave panels, reinforce once again the “Motorsport” in the badge. The headlights now feature the design style first seen on the Vision Concept, with the corner of the “eye” now leading into the kidney grille, a new trend that may be followed in the future by others as well.

Stay tuned in the very near future for exclusive details on the 2012 BMW 3 Series! In the mean time, you can find more renderings in different colors at f30post or WildSpeed Facebook page (one that you should “Like” regardless).Image
