The new BMW 5 Series is still six months ahead of us, with the first official photos coming out sometimes at the end of this year, but the spy photographers are already having a field day with the next generation BMW M5.
The top-dog M5 model was spotted at the famous Nordschleife, Nurburgring. Due to launch in 2011, the new M5 test mules surprise with the amount of design details shown. If a few days ago, for the first time, we had the opportunity to see the front-end tapped up with the now famous BMW black/white camouflage, but still carrying extra plastic body parts, today we have the first spy shots showing the super sporty sedan with just the camouflage tape on it.
Despite the more revealing photos, we believe that bodywork is not finalized yet and there are more design lines to come. Also, the typical hood bulge seen on the M cars is missing as well, at least in these spy photos, even though it was visible in the previous shots earlier in the week.
At the end, the quad exhaust pipes, an M symbol, are showing as well, indicating one more time that we’re looking at the M sport version of the new 5. All the recent and past reports indicate that the new M cars will drop the naturally aspirated engines in favor of twin-turbo engines, in this case, all points lead to a V8 turbo for the new M5.
Same as with the X5M/X6M engines, we expect to see north of 550 horsepower, plenty of “juice” and thrill for the BMW fans to play with. Add the new 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox and the new M5 will be just as fun as the current model.
While being at the Frankfurt Auto Show this week, we learned that the new 5 Series will be a masterpiece and BMW has high hopes for the new car. From the interior design to the exterior one, the new 5 Series will be moving up a notch, both in terms of design and performance.
