Rumor: BMW M5 All-Wheel Drive Being Lined Up
Rumor of the day in the BMW world comes from Autocar. The UK-based magazine reports on a BMW M5 all-wheel drive.
First hint was given back in April by Albert Biermann, BMW M’s head of R&D, who said that an all-wheel drive M5 is on BMW’s radar to satisfy demand from the snow belt in the U.S. where all-wheel-drive vehicles from Mercedes and Audi are selling well: “There will be some all-wheel-drive surprises on M cars in the future,” says Biermann.
Autocar is quoting another BMW official who has stated that the company plans to eventually produce a four-wheel-drive version of the M5. Despite the internet buzz created in the BMW world, at this point, we were not able to confirm or deny this rumor.
If indeed an M5 xDrive goes into production, the new sporty super sedan will join the X5M and X6M as the first M produced vehicles using an all-wheel drive platform.
The 2012 BMW M5 will be officially unveiled in June, followed by the public reveal at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
