BMW 6 Series launch in Cabos – 6 Series Coupe to cost $83,87
In just a few hours, we will take the reign of a new BMW 6 Series Convertible for a test drive from the beautiful Los Cabos, Mexico to La Paz. Earlier today, BMW hosted a production presentation of the new 650i Convertible and Coupe, the first two 6er models to debut in the U.S. this year.
The 650i Convertible goes on sale this summer at a base price of $91,375, while the Coupe version will start at $83,875, both prices include destination and handling charges. Later this fall, BMW will also introduce an xDrive model in the 6 Series family, but pricing or other details have not been announced at the moment
In standard configuration, both the 650i Convertible and Coupe are powered by the 4.4 liter twin-turbo charged V-8 engine producing 400 hp and 450 lbs-ft of torque which is matted to a 6-speed manual transmission. An 8-speed sport automatic transmission is available also at no extra charge.
Versus the outgoing model, the following equipment has been added to the 650i Convertible: 20-way Multi-contour seats, Nappa Leather, Comfort Access, Rear-view Camera, LED fog lights, Driving Dynamics Control which allows the driver to choose the way the vehicle responds via 4 modes – COMFORT, NORMAL, SPORT, SPORT+ and 19″ wheels.
There are four packages offered with the 2012 BMW 650i Convertible. First, the Cold Weather Package with a price of $750 which includes ski bag, heated front seats and steering wheel. Next, Luxury Seating Package, $1,500 and ads active and ventilated front seats. A $3,900 Driver Assistance Package includes Parking assistant, Head Up, Surround view camera, Automatic high beams, Lane departure warning, Active blind spot detection. Last, Premium Sound Package – $1,800 (Premium hi-fi, Satellite Radio, USB).
Compared to the Convertible, the 6 Series Coupe receives the full LED lights treatment and the specifically BMW-designed Bang & Olufsen Audio System with 16 speakers producing 1,200 watts.
BMW of North America also showcased today the 650i Individual which will be offered with unique paint jobs, special wheels and interior trims.
Exclusively available for the the 650i Individual Convertible, the Tansanite Blue metallic is offered for the first time by BMW. All the paint available in the Individual programs is applied in up to seven layers offering fascinating iridescent effects, extraordinary brilliance and exceptional depth.
Inside, the Individual range includes the fine-grain Merino stems available for the seats, door trim panels, center console and instrument panel. It can be ordered in Platinum, Champagne, Amaro Brown, Cohiba Brown or Opal White version.
As announced today, for the moment, BMW has no plans to introduce a 6 Series diesel in the United States. Even though not confirmed, we expect other engine offerings to make their way across the ocean, starting with the 640i models.
