German magazine Wattgehtab reports on the possibility of the upcoming Megacity vehicle being built in China after its official launch in 2013.

In an interview with the News Bejiing, Christoph Stark, head of BMW in China, said the launch of the Megacity Vehicle (MCV) in only 2013, will give the Chinese market a chance to observe the local suppliers and resources needed to built the car on Chinese soil.

With the Megacity vehicles, BMW strives for zero-emission city cars that could be heavily used in global metropolitan regions and the fast-growing Chinese cities fit the bill.

ImageTo be prepared for mass production of electric cars, BMW is expanding the production lines at its Leipzig plant in Germany. By 2013, there will be around 400 million euros invested in new buildings and facilities for the production of the MCV and about 800 new jobs will be created.

As early as 2011, the BMW plant in Leipzig will start producing the ActiveE vehicle based on the BMW 1 Series Coupe.Image
