The BMW X5 M is a high-performance derivative of the X5. Though it may look like your ordinary X5, this tuned up SAV is able to run with some of the world’s best sports cars.
The X5 M and X6 M siblings made their debut at the NY International Auto Show in April of 2009, and shortly after they were billed as the most powerful vehicles in their class at that time.
The X5 M sprints to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, and a quarter mile of 12.5 seconds with a trap speed of 112 mph as recorder by Car and Driver magazine. In the same test, the X5 M bested the 0-60 mph and quarter mile times of the 2009 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, the 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8, and the 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged. In wet conditions, the X5 M went around the Top Gear Test Track in 1:28.2, 5.1 seconds faster the Audi Q7 V12 TDI.
The X5 M shares the distinction of being the first SAV offered by BMW M GMbH along with its X6 M sibling. They both share the same S63 V8 pumping out 555 horsepower and 501 lb-ft of torque at a ridiculously low 1500 RPM, but it’s the X6 M that gets the spotlight for its unusual and polarizing rear sloped glass hatch.
