Photo Comparison: New BMW M6 Convertible vs. Mercedes-Benz S

Days after the official unveiling of the new BMW M6 Convertible, the Stuttgart-based automaker and BMW’s classic competitor, Mercedes-Benz, reveals their own interpretation of a high-end super sporty cabriolet. The new SL63 AMG Roadster will make its debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show.

Based on the SL-Class that debuted at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, the SL63 AMG packs a twin-turbo 5.5 liter V8 producing 529 horsepower (557 with AMG Performance Package) and 664 lb-ft of torque. The new SL63 AMG can rocket from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds (4.2 with the optional AMG Performance Package) while returning 30 percent better fuel economy. Top speed rises to 186 mph.

The new M6 is powered by a 4.4-liter unit with an output of 560 hp at 5,750 – 7,000 rpm, and maximum torque of 500 lb-ft (680 Nm) on tap between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm. 0 to 62 mph is achieved in 4.3 seconds while the spring to 124 mph (200km/h) takes only 13.1 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). The M Drivers Package will take the top speed to 190 mph.

The SL63 AMG receives a redesigned apron with a large airdam, the typical AMG radiator grille, LED daytime running lights, side sills, rear lip spoiler, diffuser-style rear apron and chromed twin tailpipes.

Inside, Mercedes’s keeps the level of luxuryy at a high level with carbon-fiber trim, illuminated sills, ambient lighting and an IWC analog clock. Single or two-tone Nappa leather further enhances the new interior.
