The new 2011 BMW 5 Series is out in the open and after years of spy photos and teaser images, BMW has no problem showing the car to the world, even prior to its official launch at Geneva Motor Show. Several test mules, most likely assigned to BMW engineers, are currently being seen in Germany.

These latest images and the video were taken this week by one of our BimmerToday readers and show us a black painted turbocharged 5er.

As we pointed out before, the dynamics, attractiveness, luxury and sportiness are some attributes that classify a 5 Series model and this new photos just come to confirm our statement. The road presence is also imposing, a great quality that many cars should poses. Despite the slight resemblance to other BMW models, the idea behind the new 5er is to retain the existing customers, but also to attract new buyers, both from the competitors, and also from existing 3 Series owners.

We feel the need to reinforce again that one of its strengths lies in the rear-end design, an unique combination of style, luxury and sportiness, that has made the now famous “Bangle butt” well forgotten.

Engine offerings are what one would expect in the sedan luxury segment, turbocharged and naturally aspirated diesel and petrol engines, ranging four to eight cylinders. For the U.S., the engine line-up will likely remain close to those of the current model, with the 230-hp, naturally aspirated 3.0-liter 528i as the entry-level model and the 300-hp, turbocharged 535i following shortly. Like the new 535i GT, the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six in the new 535i will now use the N55 twin-scroller engine. The high-end model remains the 550i, a 400-horsepower beast powered twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8.

The 2011 BMW 5 Series makes its debut in March at Geneva show, but expect to see more photos prior to its unveiling.
