BMW continues its sales growth in China. In June 2011, BMW said that sales in China rose 41 percent, or 21, 158 vehicles. BMW also said the company sold 121,614 cars in China in the first half of the year, up 61% compared with the same period 2010.

Globally, BMW continues to be the largest premium automaker by sales volume and it is quickly closing the gap from Audi in the Chinese market.

Out of the 21, 158 vehicles, 40 percent of them were BMW brand automobiles. BMW brand also reported 59% increase in the first half of the year compared with the same period in 2010, or 113, 169 vehicles.

The three German premium brands may beat forecasts for 2011. Audi has said it expects sales to rise 11 percent to 280,000 in China this year, while Mercedes projects growth of 15 percent. BMW predicts a “double-digit” increase in 2011.

BMW introduced its smallest 1 Series to the company’s lineup in China last year and in 2013, the BMW i vehicles are expected to make their way into the congested Chinese cities.Image
