I'm looking for a cheap E30 to drive besides my '97 Z3 2.8
As there are a lot of engines to choose from (316, 318, 320 ,325)
I'm wondering if someone could advise me which one to choose
based on the running costs / "fun to drive" ratio.
thnx for you help!

in my opinion they are all good cars on fuel. the best on fuel would of course be the 316 or 318. in the usa i've not seen the e30 316, we may just have the 318.
the e30 325's are actually pretty powerful. i used to drive a 1986 e30 325e. one of the first bmw's to have OBC. It was a pretty fast car, but i saw a site somewhere that shows 0-60 times for BMWs and the e30 325i was actually .5 seconds faster than the e36 325i. this is probably due to the fact that the e36 is a heavier car than the e30.
but i suggest the 325i as my 325e was great on fuel and drove very well!
where are you from?

I had a 91 318, it was great on gas, you might need more power every so often but I had a blast driving it. After all I'm back in one again
I'm hoping the e36 will be as fun. Like Kyle said I can tell there's more weight to the cars now. Let us know what you pick.

Hi guys - new to the Forum, stumbled across the forum whilst looking for style 5's for my E36!
I used to drive an E30 318i cab and although the looks were there, it was lacking a bit of torque. In my opinion the 320i isn't much faster than the 1.8 even though it is a 6 pot. The 2.5 is probably the best out of the 4.
