Hi.
I think its time to recondition my 328i motor.
Anyone done this before?, I have done other motors before but it will help to know some tricks to speed up the process doing the bigger B'M motor.
If anyone can direct me, will appriciate..

That's quiet a few miles for that car, I'd say that these sleeves will show wear by 150,000 miles, so it's problem time to do a little work on them by now anyway. How is it running? Weak/strong? Leaking at all? If all seems well then I'd just suggest an inspection, unless of course you want to put the money into new parts (which is never a bad idea by the way).

Re: M52 Motor Recondition
Same question now in 2015
I have a '99 328ic, picked up auction at below wholesale book.
150k miles, records from carfax indicate most dealer work done at 75kto 81k back in 2006/2007. ( brakes, power steering, electrical /battery)
Maybe O2 sensor at 135k in 2013.
I have had it for two months and did the Oil flush first thing since those records did not seem to exist, but I am sure they were done. Car fax just didn't record a lot of early maintenance. The car seemed to be used sparingly according to some history with a couple of female owners, so I don't think it was pedal to the medal use
So given it runs smooth for the two months now (about 2500 miles), what would be a suggested order of maintenance to ensure this gem of a car makes another 50-75K ?
( BTW the radiator looked semi-new as the guy that fixed the convertible top motor stated it looked replaced from original- (he is an E 36 enthusiast himself)
Order? I plan on doing about 1 item per month
Spark plugs, tune
Reflush of systems ( now for sure about 7 years from last ) , any particular order?
Shocks seem good so think this can wait
Tires/ brakes seem good so they were probably done not too long ago
other ideas?
Items to be proactive on to do the "prevent defense?"
Thanks

Re: M52 Motor Recondition
3/03/2015 update- first check Engine light experienced , code 1189 vent tubing and PCV value. Replaced but probably too rich fuel mix zapped the O2 sensor. The mechanic found a cracked thermostat housing so also replaced that. The drain plug was damaged so he'll find me a new one to do the full coolant flush.
Shaft coupling found cracked but appears can wait a couple of weeks.
Then the left rear brake light strip shorted. Daggone, $165 just for the tail light. But still a nice ride.
