Newest and most interesting rumor of the days revolves around the BMW Sauber Formula 1 team. According to Auto123 and Auto Motor und Sport, McLaren is looking into the idea of splitting completely with Mercedes as soon as the Formula 1 season ends.To take this rumor even further, AMS reports that McLaren’s plan to buy the Formula One engine division from BMW.
As you recall, BMW will exit the Formula 1 championship at the end of this year and a new buyer for the Sauber team has been found.
The move would also clear path for Mercedes to focus on its elaborate partnership with Brawn, the leading team this season. McLaren has an engine supply contract with equity partner Mercedes for two more seasons, but the Chairman Ron Dennis believes the car can manage without the Mercedes’ engines.
Auto Motor und Sport said BMW would be interested in selling its F1 engine program for the right price and contacts might have already been established.
A very interesting rumor and if it turns out to be true, we can’t only be happy to see the BMW engines continuing in the Formula 1 races.
On a different note, BMW Sauber driver, Rober Kubica, is still weighing his options for the next season. While many people see him joining Renault next year, the Japanese team Toyota showed interest in his skills as well. Kubica is being reluctant to make a choice since both teams’ future is up for debate.
