...Eventually after messing around looking for the wiper module and plugging/unplugging all sorts of stuff I tried the alarm again and it stopped buzzing! But I discovered two days later that the battery was flat. :(

that is just the launch feature. and the reason why it voids warranties in europe is because it eventually damages your drivetrain.
if you're planning to beat up on other cars with your m3, make sure you get a manual trans.
